Meadowood Regional Park

If you are looking for somewhere near Mount Washington to go for a walk or to take the kids to ride bikes, consider going to Meadowood Regional Park. While we have lots of wonderful places to walk and jog in our very own neighborhood, there is no denying that Mount Washington’s hills can make leisurely strolls or learning how to ride a bike pretty challenging. If you are looking for a place that is paved and a little less rigorous to exercise, but that will not take you more than 10 minutes from home, consider Meadowood Regional Park in Baltimore County. The park is just up Falls Road from Mount Washington at the intersection of Falls Road, Joppa Road, 83N and 695. It is located across from Greenspring Station. With plenty of parking in the lots, it is easy to get kids and dogs out of the car and into the park. The park includes playing fields, two playgrounds (one for younger children and one for older children), a couple of pavilions with picnic tables and a large looped trail for walking, jogging, walking dogs or riding a bike. For those younger kids, there is a very small, flat circle just inside the park that would be great for learning to control a bike. Of course, many of us also learned to ride a bike on the flat section of the Mount Washington Elementary playground (next to what is now the beautiful Outdoor Classroom).

Love this place – I like to go to Meadowwood for a walk with mom friends and plan a lunch date afterwards. Greenspring station, just a couple of blocks away, is where you can grab lunch or a coffee at the Stone Mill Bakery (kid-friendly outdoor seating area where the kids can run around an still be kept in view; good food, a bit pricey) or the Wine Merchant (less pricey – great powerhouse sandwiches) or Poulet (good hot meals , cafeteria style). Have fun!
My only gripe with Meadowwood is that, with all those fields and all that space, there isn’t one basketball hoop or one baseball backstop.
