Thank you to Clark Semmes for contributing the following article:
Mount Washington is one of eight Baltimore neighborhoods currently taking part in a pilot program called the Baltimore Neighborhood Energy Challenge. The challenge, issued by the Baltimore Office of Sustainability and the Baltimore Community Foundation, is for Mount Washington to become a greener and more sustainable neighborhood by reducing our residential energy consumption by 15%. In order to meet the challenge, fifteen of your neighbors volunteered to serve as Mt. Washington Energy Captains. These volunteers have been knocking on doors and talking to neighbors all over our community about ways in which each of us can become wiser and more frugal energy consumers. Mt. Washington residents who are interested in participating are asked to sign a pledge to work towards a 15% reduction in their personal energy use. Those who sign the pledge are given a pledge kit with free energy-saving tools and information on how each of us can reduce our energy use and reap the benefits of lower energy bills, higher property values, and a cleaner and greener planet. As of today, well over 100 Mount Washingtonians have taken the challenge and signed the pledge. People all over our community are now working hard to better insulate their home, install energy-saving lights and appliances, and share techniques for living smarter without sacrificing comfort or convenience.
