Baltimore City’s 2009 Leaf Vacuuming Pilot Program

Leaves on the Curb

Baltimore City will return to vacuuming leaves this year as part of a pilot program.  The Department of Public Works leaf collection trucks will be coming through our neighborhood on December 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 8th.  The City has asked that residents spread leaves on the curb prior to the 2nd, and that residents not place leaves on the curb after the 8th.  Each street will be vacuumed only once, so presumably, if you miss the sweep down your street, you should not put leaves on the curb, even if you do so before the 8th.

The city has asked for our assistance by not parking on the street, if possible, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the collection days listed above until that street has been vacuumed.

The City will continue to collect bagged leaves until January on our trash collection day (Wednesday) with a limit of 10 bags per week.

Please be aware that the postcard sent out by the City contains both conflicting and erroneous information.  After calling 311 to confirm, leaves in Mt. Washington will be collected in December, not November as stated in the first paragraph of the postcard.  In addition, the postcard states that leaves should be put on the curb before Monday morning, but the City actually wants them out before the morning of Wednesday, December 2nd.
