Mt. Washington Holiday Tree Lighting A Treat

Holiday TreeThe annual tradition of welcoming the upcoming holiday season by gathering at the Johns Hopkins Mt. Washington campus was as much fun as ever tonight.  As in years past, the celebration began by joining our neighbors in the gorgeous Octagon Building for cookies and hot chocolate.  Stepping into the room gave one the feeling of entering the home of a close friend, with neighbors hobnobbing, children laughing, and holiday music filling the space.  After sufficient time had been given to dole out the cookies and cocoa, Aaron Meisner, President of the Mount Washington Improvement Association, welcomed everyone to the event.  He went on to thank Johns Hopkins for hosting us once again, ARAMARK for providing the snacks, and Councilwoman Rikki Spector for joining us.  We were then led in a rousing rendition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.  After that, it was time to gather outside and count down from ten to watch the lighting of the tree from atop the hill on which the Octagon Building sits.

When the lights came on, many in attendance descended the sets of brick staircases to the base of the tree to continue chatting while the children explored the inside of the giant conifer.

Afterwards, we took a quick walk down to Mt. Washington Village for a visit with Santa Claus and an opportunity for the kids to climb on an engine, lights ablaze, from the Glen Avenue Fire House.

All in all, it was a great evening in the neighborhood.
