Winter Break Ideas for Kids
Okay, so today’s post is going to be somewhat self-serving. With the winter break from preschools and schools coming up (for most of us starting tomorrow), some families in Mount Washington will be heading off to visit family or to exotic warm vacations. However, for others, there are going to be some little people in our lives who are used to having lots to do and other kids to play with who are going to need to have some fun locally. So…I thought that we should make a list of fun things to do over the winter break in Mount Washington and within a reasonably close distance. The more that can be low-cost the better, because it is fine to splurge on a fun activity for a day or two, but we really want some ideas, little and big, to occupy the time. I will start the list off and I hope that others will join in by adding your own ideas in the comments below (note: there will be a delay in the posting of the comment, but it will show up as soon as it can be pushed through from here).
- Continue playing in the SNOW!!
- Visit the Glen Avenue Fire House Trains (see Baltimore Messenger article if you are not familiar with this neighborhood tradition)
- Take a walk in the neighborhood and talk about how different things look in winter (especially now covered in white)
- Go Bowling – perhaps the duckpin lanes at Stoneleigh Lanes on York Road would be a good option (a little further afield the Patterson is fun)
- Visit the Kenilworth Trains (while these are not as close, I think they are also worth a visit because it is easier for shorter folks to see these without being held up) (Santa’s at Kenilworth too – and there is a discount coupon online).
- Spend a day having some family fun at the BMA or the Walters (these links will take you to the family activities for each)
- Jump around at one of the indoor bouncy bounce playgrounds (our family likes Ultimate Play Zone for a cold or wet day)
- Go to the library – if the close libraries are not adventure enough, little kids will like Storyville (aka “the play library”)
Please send your ideas to add to the list!
