Baltimore County has announced that schools will be closed through Friday.

The following is a selection of private schools that will be closed on Wednesday:

  • Boys’ Latin School
  • Bryn Mawr School
  • Garrison Forest School
  • Gilman School
  • McDonough School
  • The Park School
  • Roland Park Country School

With most schools closed on Monday for Presidents Day, some lucky children have been given an impromptu 11 day vacation.

Mail Service

The US Postal Service officially announced on Saturday that they were suspending mail service for Saturday.  We have not received mail since Friday.  If anyone has any updated information, please let us know.  The Sun is reporting that the US Postal Service has suspended mail delivery today.

Public Works

Baltimore City has suspended trash and recycling pickup for Wednesday and bulk trash collection for the remainder of the week.

Snow Emergency Rules

According to the City’s snow page:

Phases I and II of the Snow Emergency Plan are still in effect in Baltimore City. This means that all vehicles traveling on city roadways must be equipped with snow tires, all weather radials or chains. In additon, parking is prohibited along designated Snow Emergency Routes. Vehicles that are parked along these designated routes will be ticketed and towed. Citizens with questions concerning the location of their vehicles should call 311.

As of 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Mayor Stephanie C. Rawlings-Blake has ordered Phase III of the city’s snow plan. This means that all non-emergency vehicles are required to stay off the road. Emergency vehicles include police and fire vehicles, ambulances, snow plows and Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. vehicles.

Phase III is scheduled to be lifted at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday. Phase II will be reinstated at that time.

Neighborhood Events

The Luckman Park meeting has been canceled for this week and will be rescheduled if/when the snow stops.

As of now, the Mardi Gras Dinner & Party at St. John’s is still on for Saturday night, February 13, from 6 pm to 8 pm, so if you are going stir crazy, this is something you can look forward to.

Lawn Chairs

Lawn-chair-parking-spot-savers should be delighted with our new mayor’s stance on the practice.  In a interview with Dan Rodricks on WYPR yesterday, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake made a pledge to not enforce the law making space-saving illegal.  She then said:

Some things are tradition in Baltimore, and blocking your parking space is certainly one of those traditions. I said to someone the other day, it’s like telling people they can’t say “Hon.”

What are your feelings on saving parking spaces using household items?
