Crêpe Mount Washington

Mount Washington restaurant Crêpe du Jour was nominated  for having the best dessert in Baltimore in the b free daily Ultimate Baltimore Desserts contest.  The Crêpe du Jour Apples, Strawberries and Nutella Crêpe is the only neighborhood dessert in the running to be named the best dessert in Baltimore.  At the restaurant, it is actually called the Crêpe Mount Washington.  Crêpe du Jour would love to have the support of all of the Mount WashingtonW neighbors who love their desserts.  Voting is online at www.bthesite.com. Voting runs from Monday 2/15 through Friday 2/19.

While my personal favorite crêpe at Crêpe du Jour is a simple strawberry Nutella crepe, I am sure that the addition of apples would only heighten the deliciousness of this superb dessert.  I must also confess that while I am a true fan of all crêpes, I particularly love those of Mustapha Snoussi, co-owner with his wife Donna of Crêpe du Jour.

I have known Mustapha since 1997 when he first started Crêpe du Jour as a cart at Cross Keys. While I really enjoyed eating his panini and crêpes outdoors at Cross Keys (both in sun and in snow), when I learned that he was going to be opening a restaurant in Mt. Washington, I could not have been happier. Since transitioning from cart to full-blown French bistro, Mustapha has become a fixture in the Village. In the summer, when not in the kitchen, he can usually be found standing out on the street chatting with neighbors and warmly welcoming diners into his restaurant.

Like the proverbial American dream, Mustapha, a native of Algeria who lived much of his life in France, has built a thriving business from scratch that has since become a neighborhood staple. He now owns the building that houses his restaurant and has completed a major renovation. Mustapha currently serves as the treasurer of the Mt. Washington Merchants Association.

While Crêpe du Jour has certainly come a long way from its humble beginnings, one of the things that I am happy has stayed the same is the delightful taste of the restaurant’s namesake.
