South Mountain Creamery Festival – April 24th and 25th

Submitted by on April 20, 2010 – 9:40 pmNo Comment

I know that lots of Mount Washington residents may have seen South Mountain Creamery’s trucks driving through our neighborhood or have experienced their wonderful fresh milk, yogurts (my personal favorite!!), cheeses and meats at the local farmer’s markets, but this weekend you could visit the farm for a fun festival and see where all of these things are made for yourself.  If you have been enjoying South Mountains products for years or are considering the convenience of using their home delivery service directly to your Mount Washington home, it is definitely interesting to check out exactly how the animals live and how the products are made on this Maryland farm.  While South Mountain invites visitors to see milking or help fed calves throughout the year, it is only during the festival days that visitors are allowed into the milk plant to learn exactly the process from the cow to the customer.  I have been in the past and found it very interesting!  There are also fun activities for children, animals, hayrides and food.  While it is a bit of a drive, if you are interested in going, this is a nice opportunity and it will make you glad that most days the milk comes to you rather than the other way around!
