Submitted by on May 10, 2010 – 9:55 pmNo Comment

Clayworks invites the neighborhood to come out and attend their community event and block party on June 4th from 6 pm to 10 pm.  It will take place at Baltimore Clayworks, in the Village, and will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Clayworks and its seconds sale.  There is also going to be a very cool sounding Hammered Chicken Contest, in addition to the food, drinks, music and shopping.  The Clayworks’ website provides the following details on the event and tickets:

Baltimore Clayworks’ Fire & Spice Block Party and Seconds Sale Preview

Baltimore Clayworks announces a community event and block party to accompany its legendary Seconds Sale PreviewThe Fire & Spice Block Party will take place Friday, June 4 from 6PM to 10PM on the grounds of Baltimore Clayworks at 5707 Smith Avenue in Mt. Washington.  And with the annual Seconds Sale Preview, the block party marks the summer celebration of Baltimore Clayworks’ 30th Anniversary. Ticket prices, which include Seconds Sale admission, and food and beverage coupons, beer and wine tastings are $30 in advance and $35 at the door.  Children 10 and under $20. All proceeds will support educational programs at Baltimore Clayworks.

Last celebrated in 2005 as Spice it Up! , this year’s  Fire and Spice event will include a Barbecue Competition and will launch the very first, very artistically original  chicken baked in clay Hammered Chicken Contest! Boogie down with the infectious sounds of The New Kings of Rhythm and dance the night away, or transform yourself or your kids into walking art and visit the face painting station .

For the barbecue, Clayworks will supply the meat and some grill space –or you can bring your own grill. Those who want to showcase their artistic  prowess are invited to prepare and season a chicken according to directions provided by Clayworks , wrap it in foil, then clay and shape it into a chicken, and then decorate it in fun and funky ways!  Once the judges have chosen the most artistic marvel, contestants will hammer open their masterpieces and each chicken will be judged on taste. Each winner will receive the prize of a Try-It! Workshop at Baltimore Clayworks.

Bargain Shopper?  Bargainista?  Art enthusiast?  If so, check out the Baltimore Clayworks’ Seconds Sale Preview. Throughout the year, Baltimore Clayworks collects ceramic pieces that are irregular, out-dated, or perfectly fine and just need a good home.  This shopping event is only open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, so you will have first choice over high quality pottery, garden sculpture, and handmade tile.
