Grilled Cheese Sandwich Cook-Off at Mt. Washington Tavern

Submitted by on March 31, 2011 – 10:44 pmNo Comment

Apparently April is National Grilled Cheese Month, so from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10th, 2011, the Mt. Washington Tavern will host its 1st Annual Grilled Cheese Sandwich Cook-Off! This charity event will feature some of Baltimore’s top chefs competing for votes to have their sandwiches crowned king. Proceeds from the $10 admission fee (kids 10 and under are free) will be donated to Moveable Feast, a charitable organization that delivers nutritious meals to Marylanders living with life-threatening conditions.

Attendees will be able to sample sandwiches created by the various professional chefs and vote on which they like best (there’s even a Kid’s Choice Award).

Think you can take on the likes of Patrick Crooks of Roy’s Restaurant with your perfected grilled cheese masterpiece? Submit your recipe and phone number to marketing@mtwashingtontavern.com and find out if you will be one of the lucky three home cooks selected to compete for cash and prizes!

For the record, my go-to grilled cheese recipe (inspired by Ina Garten) involves combining cheddar and Gruyère (sprinkled with grated Parmesan) between two pieces of buttered bread (one with mayo on the inside and one with Dijon mustard on the inside) and grilling it on a panini press. Try it.  You’ll thank me.
