Kindergarteners Knitting Circles the School

Submitted by on May 20, 2011 – 9:54 pmNo Comment

Mount Washington neighbor June Fletcher-Hill just sent me the following story about a project initiated by kindergarteners at the Waldorf School.  I love the creativity and perseverance! How cute is this…

For the kindergarten class at the Waldorf School of Baltimore, a single piece of string was the inspiration for a yearlong undertaking. After finger crocheting a string of yarn as a hand-eye coordination activity, a six-year old student declared that the class should make a knitted rope long enough to encircle the whole school. Twenty enthusiastic kindergarteners took up the endeavor and, without teacher prompting, they put their fingers to work. Throughout the year, the children contributed to the ever growing rope in their free time, until it not only circled the kindergarten building, but stretched all the way to across the street to the Upper School. Proud of their achievement, the students are excited by where their imagination and hard work took them!

If you hear of other interesting things going on in and around our neighborhood (and immediate area) – please feel free to write up a blurb and send it my way!
